An aspiring young sailor aiming to compete in the Paris 2024 Olympics. This page is the co-ordinating page for Joe's funding requirement.

Joe is a member of the British Sailing team. As a member, he receives some central funding. The harsh reality is that the funding does not cover his costs, and there is therefore a shortfall to make up.

Joe is a local Bedford boy. He has enjoyed local support from a combination of individuals, businesses and the Rotary Club of Bedford Park while he was a junior sailor.

In 2018 he won the UK junior championships, and was invited to join the British Sailing Team by the YHA.

The route to Paris 2024 is expensive. His annual costs in excess of £30,000, and he receives no salary. The funding provided by the YHA grows as he delivers sporting success, resulting in the 2018/2019 season being the most expensive where he needs to find £27,000 to fund equipment, training and competitions. The amount falls in 2019/2020 to £19,000 if he reaches certain milestones, and it will fall each year thereafter.

So the net result. We need to raise a total of £100,000, with £27,000 required for the 2018/2019 season.

So let's get busy!

I am aware that I am asking you to support my elite sport aspirations. As with all sporting endeavors, I may fail. It will not be for the lack of trying.

But what if I make it. What if I end up earning the big bucks. Why should you support me rather than supporting grass roots sports.

My answer :

Grass roots sports is important. If that is your preference, then I respect your view

If I make it and earn the big bucks, I will treat my financial assistance as a loan. I will repay it either to you, or by writing a cheque to support the next young person looking to achieve their sporting dreams.

If I don't make it, I will commit my time to help raise money for others. I have a duty to give back.

Your support is your decision. My promise is to work hard to win, and work hard to repay society for the benefit that I have received.
